I have been thinking about this for a while and want the easiest least messy way of doing it. I recall long time back a friend used a worm based method that seemed pretty self sustaining. I am concerned about large unsightly messes that neighbors may frown upon so a clean solution is most welcome.

I have a Green Johanna from Green Cone. It's well built, robust, and the drab green colour blends pretty well into the shrubs I've sat it between. The Johanna has a hatch at the base to extract mature compost, and a lid to secure it from pests and keep the smell down. The shape stops the compost from sticking to the sides so it collapses down well allowing me to add 1-2 large bags of green waste each month. I was also going to get a Can-O-Worms wormery, but that was vetoed by my wife because of the wriggling. |
